Turbo change- easy swap?
« on: 02 February 2008, 21:17 »
The turbo is on the way out on my 115PD AUY and main dealer is quoting over £1k for the fix.

Being reasonably handy with the spanners I am considering the DIY route but have a couple of questions:

1- Is the 130PD turbo a bolt on to the 115?  As they seem plentiful it would appear to be a wise move....  I am considering the GT1749va unit as an alternative.
2- Other than new gaskets / bolts and clips is there anything to scare the DIY mechanic in this?  I have done plenty of work on Mk2s but not worked on a PD unit.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Bump!

Have got hold of a new turbo, gaskets and oil pipe.  Any ideas how much labour is involved in the swap?  Any advice would be much appreciated!

In a mk4 now then?

I sold my mk2 and bought a 3dr Silver GT TDI110.

That's if you remeber me (picked the seats up from you for my mk2)

regarding a straight swap its not that hard and armed with a haynes and a spanner you should be able to do it yourself.

can't tell you for sure if you can drop a 130 turbo straight on, i'd give allard a bell as they sell after market turbos for the MK4, even if you're not going to buy one from them, they normally give good impartial advice.
