audi a3 1.9 tdi 110kw  smokes like mad when u boot it thick black smoke  and turbo cuts out  every now and then any ideas

sounds like a serious case of overfuelling  :undecided:

i'd clean out the EGR and the intake manifold to see if it lessens the smoke; check for split pipes too as that could be why the turbo cuts out

start with those and see what happens

let us know what happens; i suggested them as it will cost you just a few hours labour of your own time and no expensive parts lol

Sounds like a boost leak to me.
The MAF is detecting the air flow on the inlet side, but, if you have a boost leak then not all the air is getting to the inlet manifold. However the MAF is still going to schedule the fuel as if it is, hence the overfuelling and black smoke. The worse the leak, the more smoke you will get. You may even be able to hear it hiss when the turbo spools up.
Its very common for people to think that the turbo is at fault but in reality that is very unlikely. They do seem to be very robust units.

had a look couldnt find any think untowards no leaks ect ect i pluged it in to a fault finder no faults   so its booked in to a derv specialist for next sat ill let u know how they get on cheers for ur help
