A couple of weeks ago I went out to the car in the morning to discover it was covered in frost.  I was running a little late - so I just scraped the front and side windows before jumping in.  From the time I stuck the face plate in my stereo and put on my seatbelt, a joiner man had nipped into the car park and randomly abandoned his van in the middle!
With no clear back window or mirrors (and it being pretty dark at 7.45am) I reversed into his van with a large *BUMP*!

I got out and looked at my bumper.  It had a hole in it the size of a £2 coin in the bottom section, and the top section was all scuffed and knackered.  I then looked at his van - which only had a cracked number plate.  Whoops!

I hung around for the guy to come back out - and explained that I'd hit his van.  He got down and studied his van - unfortunately he noticed that his bumper was cracked too.
After a quote for his Merc van, and a quote for my whole new bumper - I realised it was an insurance claim (luckily I have protected NCD) so on Monday I put my car into the bodyshop for repair.

I've been driving a courtesy 1.2 Corsa for the last week... and phoned yesterday to see if my car was ready.  The guy explained they has a problem - but I could get my car today (Saturday).

Basically - they cant manage to locate an Edition 30 bottom half of the rear bumper!  I have my car back just now with the top half fixed - but may have to wait up to a month for the bottom half.  Apparently despite the Edition 30 still being a current model, there are a lack of bumpers.  He said they there are 3 other people infront of me on the suppliers list - so obviously there are another 3 careless people waiting for a bumper!!!

So just a wee warning with all this naff weather at the moment.... clear all windows before setting off!!!!!!
Dont wreck your back bumper - as you may have to wait a while for a replacement!
gotta laugh mate idid the same
iwas driving the works astra van and one morning i had to scrape off the ice
did that but the inside was misty, turned the blower on and set off no problem,
however when i turned east with the winter sun in my eyes the screen, still not demisted,
turned opaque, but i thought no problem i'll slow down, next thing i know BANG!  and come to a halt, i thought WTF
next thing i see is the side window shatter and staring at me  is a f*ck off big yellow empty skip
i thought b*ll*cks i managed to get the van home, about 400yds, and thought about how the f*ck am i gonna explain this
in the end i told the boss the van had been parked near the corner and a lorry must have hit it overnight
he swallowed it but said the lorry must have been doing some speed i must have heard it
i replied i'd had a few beers and didn't hear athing
repair bill was £3500 lol

This looks like it could throw a curve ball on the Silver CF DTM section I am getting then?!? :undecided:

....Ah! I guess that means you would have to get a "Spoiler" part to go with the OSIR CF "Tail pipe trim". This info about whether the Ed30 rear valance is only one piece or not needs checking. I'll be calling my VW Parts Manager on Monady.

Meanwhile, talking of valances and wishing to cheer you up, here's Holly Valance:

I guess I'll have to talk to the guys at the TT shop as the rear valance/spoiler is definitely, absolutely, positively, 100% a one piece moulding. See the pic I've done below.

I'm sure that there will be some way around it. If there isn't I'll have a little more to spend on something else instead

....That's a really helpful pic, Hurdy

So I think that in conclusion we can all safely state that the Ed30 holly valance is all one-piece but the GTI and R32 are two-piece. Do you prefer Holly Valance in a bikini or a one-piece swimsuit?

What you could do (according to fixings) is sell the whole of your Ed30 rear valance and buy a R32 "spoiler" to go with the OSIR CF (same as me). More expense though.

I do have another consideration to make and that is my rear camera is sited on the bottom of the "Holly"

I'm sure something interesting will come up   Perhaps a re-siting of the camera into a new rear with the CF insert and perhaps a dual oval exit a bit like the dual round exit of the S3 :undecided:

Thanks for clearing that up Hurdy...

So my options are:-
1. Wait for a month+ for an Ed30 spoiler
2. Fit an R32 spoiler with GTI valance
3. Find a subtle aftermarket solution (any suggestions)

The only problem being that as the bodyshop is already involved with the insuance company - I maybe cant change the scope of the repair?

Talk to the bodyshop ASAP. If they haven't already ordered the replacement parts then you should be able to specify your own. The only thing you would have to do is arrange to pay the difference between the stock parts and the ones you want. Also if there is extra labour involved for the parts you want then you would have to pay that too. The bodyshop can just invoice the insurance for the stock work that would have been done.

....Referring to your numbered options:

2 - I know that VW currently have UK stock of 100's of primed Mk5 R32 "Spoilers" # 1K6 807 433 C GRU (I'm about to order one). The only visual difference with the Ed30 is the recessed strip reflectors. The R32 spoiler will definitely fit the GTI and, I assume, the Ed30.

3 - If you fitted either a R32 or GTI spoiler, you could then fit an OSIR carbonfibre "Tail pipe trim". Black CF would look good and quite subtle with the Steel Grey in my opinion.

If I think of anything else I'll post.

HTH
