New GTi owner (potentially)
« on: 31 January 2008, 12:48 »
Hello everyone!

I am about to purchase a Mk 5 Gti, and I was hoping you could give me your opinions on a few issues.

The car I'm looking at is a tornado red 5 door with leather, armrest and cd multichanger.  It is a Jan '05 with 38k on the clock.  The dealer is looking for £14,750, although he may come down a little (I left the dealership saying I would think about it!)

I just wondered if this is a fair price.  I was also concerned about the colour, as I wanted black or grey, but you can't be too picky when buying used!  Are red ones more likely to attract attention (be pulled by cops or have a nail dragged down them), or is that just scaremongering?

Thanks in advance

If you want black mate, hold out for black or you'll regret it. Best take your time and get one you want rather than the only one thats there.

Red is a nice colour however.

Yes, you are quite right!  I would prefer black, but it is so difficult to find one with leather, armrest, etc.

This one has been owned by a young lady who never thrashed it and it is absolutly mint, except for kerbed front alloys which the dealer says they will get re-furbed as part of the deal.

It does look good in the red.  I drove it last night and loved it, just can't wait to repeat the experience on a daily basis!

Welcome to the forum

I must say that T-Red is a lovely colour and is one of the Gti's original colours.

Those are a few pics I took of the GTI down the road. With a good polish it looks like that

I cant really suggest much about the price. Although it seems to be good.  Depends though if the car came with xenons or the 18" Monza Rims which usually pushes the price up.

Why not make a post in the MK5 Section?

That is one shiny motor!

The car I'm looking at just has standard alloys and headlights, which I'm happy enough with.

The main things I wanted was leather and an armrest (my current car has one and once you get used to it you really miss it).  Couldn't belive my luck when I went to the dealer and he had one with leather, as they are rare beasts indeed.  My choice is also restricted to a 5 door, as a 6 week old baby has to be factored into the equation!

It ticks every box, and looks superb, but I just think black looks that littlle bit better.

I think that what I want is for all you red owners to convince me it is the best colour.

I've been bitten by the GTi bug, and want one in my garage asap.

Only a fellow Martin would have spotted that!
