There are two things that annoy the tits of me with our ipod preparation. One is VW's fault, the other is Apple's fault.
VW: They Ipod fits into a slot to connect. What they should have done is had a cable that connects to the ipod, THEN put the ipod in. Why? Because you can't choose more tracks while the IPOD is already inserted, and it's something that passengers often like to do on a long journey. 0/10 for VW. I believe that BMW's latest cars have a better setup.
(Clearly, this isn't a problem if you don't go for the armrest and just have a lead going into the glove compartment)
Apple: What dreadful software on IPODs. So much for the hype.
1) TO build a playlist you have to:
a) Select your tracks/albums (hold down the centre button till the selection flashes...how did you know to do this? Well, you just have to know. There is nothing to help you on screen. So much for 'intuitive')
b) Once your tracks are selected, you have to navigate to 'playlists->on-the-go', then scroll down through your tracks to the end where it says 'save playlist', then press that and on yet another menu confirm this choice. It saves the 'on the go' playlist so that it can be seen by the VW head unit (as CD #) (# depends on how many saved playlists you already have).
Want to edit a playlist, add tracks to it? YOU CAN'T. How crap is that?
Want to delete a playlist? YOU CAN'T... not without waiting till you get home, then firing up Itunes on your computer, plugging in your ipod and doing it from there.
Why would you want to delete a playlist? Because you only have 6 slots, and if you're away on holiday for a week, you might very well wish to listen to some music that isn't on the playlists you've already created.
Apple is like a religion for some. Just like religion, it's a lot of hot air.
All in all, very much less than ideal. Far better if you can to get a decent head unit and plug in a decent MP3 player which doesn't have these stupid flaws.
I wouldn't buy an IPOD now. I wish I knew all these things before I did.
