RECARO SEATS.
« on: 30 January 2008, 22:32 »
Hi, just joined as I'm looking for a 130 GT TDI. Can anybody tell me,were there 2 options for the leather interior on this model,as some are advertised as just "leather seats" and some are advertised as " Recaro" leather seats. Is there much difference between the two and can you tell just by looking? The last Recaros I had were in an Escort RS2000 back in the 80's.
    I'd appreciate any help.
                               Cheers.

the leather recaro's have the name on them and have deeper bolsters, also have recaro on the rear seats  and a third head rest as far as i know, the normal leather seats are just the normal sports seats.... but leather!

go for the recaro's if you can get them, they look better and support you more.

dont get me wrong the normal leather is still nice.

IIRC...  I read that after a certain year they stopped using recaros, and switched to their VW OEM version of the same thing. I'm sure there almost as good, so I wouldn't worry about it.

the bora has the 'normal' leather seats in and i cant fault them tbh, they are heated and look nice but when you see the Recaro's you know they are better! lol

Thanks for the help,I suspect that some people may just be advertising them as Recaro's when they are really VW seats but nice to know they're still good anyway.
                 cheers.

the recaros do look nicer but all the ones i've seen look to have worn quicker than the "sports" leather seats, could be down to the bolster shape.

like everyone says the easy way to tell is by looking for the embossed recaro logo, you quite often see recaro leather seats on ebay, so if you can't find one with them you can always fit them after.

or you can go for a retrim which would cost you about a grand.

As all have mentioned above........recaro's will say say on seat and the headrests are slightly triangular in shape.

The code on the inside front cover should read Q2Q if it has them.

Hope this helps

Yea like they say, if they dont have the obvious recaro written on the back rest then they arnt recaro. I looked at lots of golfs b4 i got the gti t. i found that the ones with the vw leather were always less worn because the seats are slightly softer and the leather is kind of looser, the recaro ones are so much more comfortable and hold you in better but much harder seats with tighter leather which may be y the drivers right hand bolster tends to wear a little bit. i went for one with the cream heated leather recaro's in the end because it had only done 73,000miles and i could afford it, but even on that the drivers seat is quite worn. but in general they look so amazing and really comfy. cream ones show the dirt in the creases a bit tho but dont burn u as much in the summer.
