Help Issues advice needed
« on: 30 January 2008, 12:13 »
Hi There,

Still loving the Gti. Its going in for 18k service next tuesday and ive a few minor issues theyre going to look into and I want to go to the dealers pre-armed so to speak.

When I turn left usually a sharpish turn I get a blast of cold air coming onto the gearstick area - most noticeable if my hand is on the gears. I havnt got any noises as per the known rack issue elsewhere on here -  just the fresh air

Also when turning to full lock  when I release say a quarter turn from full lock you can feel an odd sensation like the turn isnt smooth - not a noise just an odd sensation

Brakes - fine apart from the last few metres of travel they always make a grinding noise - not a squeal dealer has looked at them when the car had done 10k said it was disc corrosion - no other car inc VWs ive had has done it before even clapped out old bangers.

Ive a dash rattle coming from higher up inside the dash sounds like from towards the top of the sat nav unit. There used to be link/post on here with pics showing the problem and how to fix - anyone help me find it.

When I start the car I get a noise like some is rolling around behind the dash starts behind dashpod and moves down towards the gear stick - dealer says its a carbon filter engaging and common to all golfs?

Mines 06 car

Any help very much appreciated

Cheers

Yanek

If you look under the MK5 Maintanence and information thread you will find a lot of info.

The steering wheel may be a faulty steering rack, which VW should replace for free.

About the carbon filter thing  :undecided:
Never heard of that before

The "fresh" breeze of air you feel when going around a corner is due to the air con fan sucking in cold air from the side of the car as you turn. It is common to all MKV golfs and nothing to worry about.

I've got the same cold air blast - seems pretty common on the forums.

The brake grinding....have you got a DSG?

Cheers

Cheers for the cold air advice I wont give them a hard time over that one - Its a manual car - excuse perhaps my being dumb but not sure how the dsg could relate to the brakes - but again no expert hence why im after the help and any is gratefully received
