On our new ED30 with just 300 miles on the clock, we're getting about 34mpg, 'sensible' speeds, 80% motorway...
I'd sort of expected it to be a few mpg higher to be honest - maybe it will be once the car's done 10K.
One thing I've noticed is that unlike the old car, the mpg creeps up when going through reasonably free flowing urban roads (30/40mph) - I always thought that cars weren't that efficient in fuel when on such roads, but it's the first time I've been able to monitor it. (Obviously if you're stop starting all the time then it'll take a hit).
TIP:
If you want to get your fuel efficiency up, then an alternative to driving incredibly carefully and slowly is to leave the car at home on some short trips and cycle or walk instead. Then use the fuel you saved to cane it along the b-roads!
