Show or stealth?
« on: 29 January 2008, 19:55 »
Well chaps, I need to finish off my boot build and was wondering what kind of design to have.

Should I go for a stealth install to one side of the boot?

Should I add another sub and have a symetrical install at each side of the boot?

Should I go for something with a bit more show?

I was thinking of having the install done in brushed aluminium fabrication with moulded fibre glass backs to fit the arches, and re-upholster the boot in grey and black alcantara, but not sure what it would look like in the flesh.

An alternative is to re-upholster the boot in standard cloth and hide the install completely.

What are everyone's opinions?

Any other ideas.

No gold lame jokes please

I'm assuming your talkin about filling your boot space with something that will blow your ears off - well i'm afraid id recommend neither as all it will do is add weight and blunt performance and that is a deffo no no in my book!
However if you will insist on having tinitus later in life then you may as well show it............. but why, who really will be impressed that is worth knowing????  :undecided: :undecided:
Sorry all IMO
I'll :lipsrsealed: now....

stealthy one sided , but powerfull , mostly hidden with a few subtle touches in line with cars usual interior.
Dare I say it you 'could' bring in the lines of the ed30 seats ! but then again no lol
but for me very subtle , good quality hard hitting sound , maybe with highlights to match ed30 trim (not too much mind)
besides think of bhp/ton , weight distribution etc , dont want to spoil your car after the remap

In Order To Have A Sound System Would You Need To Change The Head Unit???

Or Will The Stock Head Unit Do??

To have a decent sound system you definitely need to change the head-unit. The stock head units (yes even the ones which supply the sound-pack!) use DSP (digital sound processing) which work with the standard VW speakers. The stock speakers are poor quality and even the soundpack system speakers are just about passable as low end aftermarket items.

I've already changed my head-unit and door speakers and have a 4 way amp powering the front component speakers and the 10" sub (which currently resides in a temporary sub box ) :nerd:

I Was Seriously Thinking Of Doing A Boot Install In My Golf... 2 3000 watt Subs... One On Either Side Enclosed In Fibre Glass...   But This Was If I Didnt Have To Change The VW Stock Sat Nav....

I Guess The Sound System Idea Has Gone Out The Window...
