Ok i'm a little confused. I'm assuming u have no blower action at all? i.e no air blowing through the vents.
if this is true check the fuse first then the wiring at the switch and then the wiring on the blower itself.
A voltage meter is handy if u know how to use one otherwise visual inpection will have to do.
If the blower works on one of the settings like the highest for instance, then its either the switch (but unlikey) its more likely to be a knackered blower.
steam/smoke. Definately leaning toward steam i'm afraid. Which mean moisture is getting into the vents. From my experience this it the matrix leaking and i'm pretty sure its a common problem for mk2's. To replace the matrix u have to remove the dash to access it, which is a pain and long process....
GSF do a matrix for about 20 quid. But its gonna cost a bit to get it fitted cos i'm guess a few hours to fit.
