Another ABS problem!!
« on: 29 March 2004, 09:13 »
Hi guys,

This is my first post to the forum so apologies for any mistakes!!   ;)

I've had a a problem on my VR6 with the ABS light being on constantly for the past 2 months. So i ordered a VAG-COM cable and diagnosed it as being the rear left ABS valve...... which i took to mean the sensor needed replacing.

Anyway, after replacing it the light is still on.  Do i need to clear all the codes from the ECU for the light to go out or should it go out automatically?? The only reason i havent cleared them is because I have a few other errors I need to have a look at first.

Any comment suggestions (or if you know what might fix it) would be great!!!

Cheers.

Just for information, clearing the errors did not fix the warning light. Still getting the same error :

1 Fault Found:
00276 - ABS Outlet Valve: Left Rear (N136)
        35-00 - -

I'm thinking possibly the ABS Pump or ECU??

Sounds like a problem with the ABS pump. Ouch!! that will be expensive.
I don't think they can be repaired, so you will probably need a new one.

Thats what i was thinking.

Im going to try a quick test tonight, by swapping the rear left and right sensors cables over to see if the fault is then logged against the rear right wheel (if you follow what i mean). If it doesnt then I think I can rule out the sensor and concentrate on the pump/ ECU.

In the meantime im going to ring the VW breakers near me and see what sort of money we are looking at for a replacement pump!

Just to update. I got a price on the pump and it was loads of money, and to be honest the fact that the ABS isnt working doesnt really bother me that much (until I need it!  ;)). But obviously i needed the light off for my MOT.

So........ this is a bit naughty I know, but I got myself a small 555 electronic timer and wired it in so that the light came on when the ignition was turned and switched itself off after about 3 seconds. Needless to say it passed the MOT.

OF course I do not recommend this as a fix as the ABS is an important safety feature of the car - blah blah blah

I've exact the same problem except the ABS still works...
Where did you get the electric timer from?? Assume Maplin should be able to supply??

Yeah, Maplin or CPC will be able to sort you one out.  A couple of quid max. Not bad when compared to a few hundred at least to get it fixed!

Nice one mate, may well give Maplin a try for a short term fix... mind you I will get it sorted once I get my hands on a OBD 2 connector.
Anyone know where I can get one apart from ebay??
I've tried on 4 occasions now but been out bid at the last minute for about ?50/60...
