mk1 fuel pumps
« on: 28 March 2004, 23:17 »
Hi again, its been a while since I,ve posted here, but to recap I had a problem with my mk1 cab not starting after it had been off the road for a year, it turned out the fuel pump had seized, I bought another from a guy on e-bay, but when it arrived I noticed the body of the pump was a smaller diameter, the car starts and runs fine now, however the lift pump in the tank is noisey, I,m wondering if I need a lift pump to suit the replacement fuel pump, or is my original lift pump on the way out ?, I checked the rubber hose on the lift pump as I know these can rot, but it seems ok, any info appreciated, cheers.

Hi, bladerunner.
If the car runs fine I wouldn't worry about the different pump sizes. How noisy is the lift pump?, If it needs changing I would just get the lift pump thats listed for the car.
Steve.

Hello Steve, thanks for the reply, the original lift pump that was on the car was very noisy, I had a spare one that had been in the garage for a couple of years so I tried that, this was quieter but still not right, do you know if I can buy the pump on its own or does it come with the tank mounting and sender attached ?. Regards Paul.
