Thanks for all the advice .. even went to the trouble of asking my insurance company whether it would be ok to install an alloy dv and they said as long as it doesnt increase performance then yes.

The offical line from Forge Motorsports was that it should produce a smoother gear change by stopping turbo lag.

So purchased FMCL007P Fast Road Closed Loop Diverter Valve (piston) from Forge Motorsports.  Should arrive Monday - show pics after its been done.

Gazza - let me know how ur gettin' on?

Cheers

The unofficial line being that (unless you're talking high boost applications) dump valves are a waste of time other then for accoustic pleasure.  VW's will surely have a recirc valve or silent dump to atmos???!!

Also- wastegate chatter IS a problem, you'll be leaking boost each time it chatters i.e. it's not sealing so it's venting boost on each open/close cycle.  Probably marginal - but all the same, losing boost.

Dave - although people have incorrectly referred to it as a dump valve, the Forge item is a recirculating 'diverter valve' that replaces the standard VAG/Bosch 'boost valve'. It is not a vent to atmosphere device - leave those to barry boys in RS turbos!!

Gazza - I bought one from Forge Motorsports for ?80.  I read a couple of reviews and its seems to fit the bill and not that difficult to install.

The reason why piston ones came about was because they are more reiable, and some cars cannot run witht the Diaphragm stylke ones.

I remember on my old Punto GT turbo, you had to use the Piston dump valve as the Diaphragm type would allow air past and would mean the car would'nt idle. This was cured by the piston D valve.

Now fitted my DV.  Left pics at home along with my body this morning!
Its funny ... from what you read on instructions it should be easy.  Things that I found weren't quite like the instructions ...
  • The clips on the hose's were all fixed in (no screws to undo them)
  • The small vacuum pipe was smaller than the nozzle it had to go on, so a little improvisation was in order (see pics)
The rattley noise seems to have gone, so it looks like it cured the problem.
