Windscreen wiper switch
« on: 28 March 2004, 20:48 »
I have an 89 8v GTI and it doesnt have an intermittent setting on the wiper switch.
Should it have?
I don't know if it is the original switch cos the car was stolen years ago before I bought it so I dont know if it was replaced with the right one.
Anyway I would like intermittent wipers so if I cant get hold of the correct MkII switch, will the switches from the MkIII or even Corrado fit? Will Mk III or Corrado switches have the right gubbins to operate the MFA?

A tip that I discovered with the mk1's that may well apply to the mk2 too:-

Some of the basic models didn't have intermittent wipers, however, the only reason it didn't work is because a plastic stop was installed into the switch mechanism to prevent the downward movement. Simply remove the switch, remove said stop,  and it should work ;)

It was a while back, but if memory serves me correct it was a white piece of plastic in the switch itself. I have a switch unit handy, I'll take a pic and see if its possible to show you where to look.
