Retrofit OEM Bi Xenons
« on: 26 January 2008, 16:25 »
I've bought some oem bi-xenons from flea-bay and the adpter lead from Kufatec but there were no instructions with the adapter leads.

There's one open wire on the adapter lead that will need to plug in somewhere but I've no idea where. Has anyone done this?

They possibly fit on the rear axel sensor as the Xenon’s have a self leveling system! If the self leveling is not fitted along with the washer jets then you will be driving illegally, this will mean void insurance and the car may fail its MOT.

also you need headlamp washers, hopefully you have them already, otherwise again an MOT failure and therefore illegal.

If you do a search there has been many posts discussing the + & - points of fitting Xenons.

I've done that, there's nothing on this adapter lead.

It would be if I was manufacturing cars but as it's an aftermarket accessory that law doesn't apply as long as they're "E" marked as these are. MOT will only check the brightness and aim. OEM xenons are a standard 35W. Unless I have Jabba the Hutt in the boot when it's MOT'd the aim will be the same as the standard halide light.

As above.... No it's not part of the self leveling, that's a different harness again.

Anyone actually fitted this?

If you think thats true then you better read this. without self levelling and washers your car will fail its MOT, even aftermarket.

as Komenda and 2007GTI have both said this is 100% wrong, the "E" mark means jack sh1t if you don't have the other requirements and it could be "E" marked for halogen bulbs and not xenon bulbs

The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above.

The headlamp washers as people have already said here are 100% required if you fit Bi xenons. The the light given out by xenons is affected badly by dirt building up on the lens therefore the washers are a must. It is illegal not to have them whether factory fit or aftermarket. You must have the washers.
