Thanks for all the top tips phil.

yep, i should notice the difference with the wrangler. I got into the whole off roading thing, hence the wrangler. But im just bloody sick of repairing it. 25k in repairs the last yr.

so the plan is a GTI and a MX bike for off road fun. (whispers) also looking at the new lancer. They have a GT model, which is a bit of EVO look a like, but without as much oopffmmm or wonger. But the swingometer is firmly in the GTI court at the moment.

Living up at the springs.

Thanks again phil.

Karl

Ah - the Springs!  Lived there for 2 years until the rent became ludicrous!  Springs 11 - those were the days...

Just seen the new Lancer GT and the guy wanted to play - saw him off without even trying...  Go for the GTI - give it a few months and the Lancer will be the latest Jingly-mobile...(think I can get away with saying that on a UK forum!)

I'm due out there on the 10th Feb.  3 months initially going to 2 years after that so I'll hold off buying a Mk5 until the 3 months are up - will still get a Mk4 initially though as I can't be asked to rent a car

Good for you!  That's a good time of year to come as you'll get acclimatised before summer ramps up.  Getting off the plane in July when it's over 50c isn't pretty!

Where are you going to be working and living?  I'm thinking of setting up a UAE GTI club, as we've got some great roads and tracks on our doorstep - i just need e-mail addresses of owners from the dealership...

have a look at this link:

http://www.gnads4u.com/search.html?t=wheels&ct=RXC-CR-CAR&make=Volkswagen

It's the classified section from the Gulf News - there are a few 2nd hand 2007 GTIs in there too....

I haven't the faintest idea of where I'll be living... although I am planning to buy a place if I stay longer than 3 months - which is very likely - so I don't end up spending loads on rent.  Can just rent out the place when I leave and sell it after 12 months recouping my costs   Thats the plan anyway   A Mk5 GTI will be a given after 3 months though and I'd love to have a blast - I mean careful drive sorry  :lipsrsealed: - on an empty road.     We can have Club GTI UAE Branch or something like that - lol...
