Mk5 gti question - can any advise??

hello, i bought a new gti in September and after a few days (was too excited to notice it on pick up!) realised that it had rust on each wheel - on the spacer bit between the disc and the alloy, i took it in to the dealer and they said that it was quite normal due to the paint, and there was nothing they could do but they took some photos and would get back to me. they never did. naturally, having spent 20k i dont think this is satisfactory. Can anyone else tell me if this is indeed 'normal' or are they trying to pull a fast one??? Thanks in advance

It seems pretty normal. Our car has the same thing. But just to make sure we all know what you talking about do you maybe have a pic of the rust? I dont think I understand.

If you look at this picture you can see the rust im refferring to. Apparently this normal.

Yes this is normal, its part of the brake disc. It really doesn't look to good does it. Lots of people have taken their wheels off and painted them with high temperature paint. When I fitted the zero-sixty discs I masked them off and gave them a good coat of high temp silver engine paint before I fitted them and they look much better and seem to be lasting ok

What your looking at 08micsta is the face of the disc which will get a coat of surface rust when the car has been stood for a bit and will clean off the first time the car is used and the brakes are applied, thinks becs was talking about the hub of the disc that the wheel bolts to and you can see through the wheel

Try this image it shows the rusty disk bell. These aren't mine. But I did rub mine down and paint them with high temperature paint. They have been ok so far.

I was at an Audi garage the other week and plenty of the cars of the forecourt were the same.

Seems like it's quite common and that dealers will generally fob you off and not want to put it right under warranty

The rusting is normal but very unsightly. Personally, if my car had rust when new I would have rejected it or at least had all the discs replaced before taking physical possession of it. Crap that dealer has not come back but you really should have chased them up before now - get back on to them asap.
