Looking to get a 16v - how much?

Okay guys,  I am hopefully going to be getting hold of a fistful of cash soon and I've been thinking about what to spend it on.  A Good Mk2 GTi 16v is pretty high on the list.

So,  how much should I expect to pay for a good condition, original car not needing work anytime soon?

I have a figure in mind,  lets see how close I am!

i bought mine a few months back

reciepts for a £800 head  skim / new head and rebuild

roof line down respray

new suspension all round

and a load of other bits for a £1000

and on top of that it passed its MOT today - with only one advisory

All I will say is be prepared to WAIT - i only looked at 11 cars over 3 months - others have taken over a year to find the right car

Also be prepared to travel - some people set a 40 mile radius  I did a 400 mile plus round trip including train tram and bus journey

for a good clean late spec car anything between £1500-£3000

6 months ago i paid £750 for mine from a friend, 98,000 miles, H plate, full factory leather, G60 brakes, m.o.t and tax, so far i've put 12,000 miles on it with no probs at all, just put petrol in one end and drive it.

We willing to travel anywhere, I went all over the place. Ended up travelling 300 miles to get it and bring it home on no sleep!
