We're all singing the Golf GTI praises ... how good it is etc ..

Yet, we modify them?

... Dizzie has a 1.8T mk4 engine in his ... was the mk2 engine not good enough?

I have a Magnex exhaust... was the original not good enough?

 .... I cant be bothered listing anymore ... just summet I thought of..

Has "ANYONE" left their car standard (re-spray in the SAME colour doesnt count... neither does replacing standard bits that are broke with other standard bits)

erm...

non original alloys, had lowering springs but i changed them for coilovers (cheaper to fit coilovers at the time) erm and a full stainless exhaust which i would want to change to standard to be honest.

this all came with the car so im not complaining.
 ohh and i had to change the wiper to the lay flat position coz im a hypo

VW Golf Mk4 bee-sting aerial (Actual VW part)

So Im NOT standard.... not my a long way... im closer to a Mk3 Anniversary than a normal GTI lol.

Most of the things on my car are standard. The paint, interior etc... The grille isn't, but its from two, to a four, which i standard on most golfs, so that does't count!! Up until a few days ago my shock absorbers were also all standard, and original 16 yr old!! Even my battery is 10 years old, and its not a really expensive one either. I won't be modding my car ever. I am one of those people who thinks it looks good as it is.

I think why people modify their cars isn't just to "improve" it, but because they're bored, or like to just  constantly fiddle!! I bet if you gave them a car that didn't need any mooding, or anything, they'd try to find something!! I suppose i'm the same too!! I really would like an old heap and totally renovate it, that would be cool!

I think there should be a post like, most annoying mod, or a poll, modded or original. Might do that later..

big up jmallows for leaving it standard... I hated my black plastic bodykit and HAD to spray it ... and the front skirt had frayed so that was the reason behind going to VW and getting an alternative skirt.

... the rest? ... the bee-sting aerial had a chuck of rubber missing and I liked the "twisted" mk4 version better.

Red calipers - first mod ... done to look different as I wasnt changing the wheels.

Door sills? ... early golfs seem to get rust down there so I washed, polished and covered the area up.

Magnex? cos the original was a pee-shooter

Did i also mention that until two years ago it had onlt had one owner, my dad? I remember when we went to buy it, he kept it good for 14 years or so, now its mine. And now i'm not going to get rid of it until its 200k at least!! Sometimes i want to get like k&n and stuff, but money puts me off. Things like that good, what annoys me is when people lose the badge, the spots, and have just one wiper. But i dont like to criticise others cars as lots of people have done that!! I have done one non-standard mod, but you wouldn't notice unless i pointed it out, that's a twin washer jet on the back, cleans the window FAR better!!
