toledo PAS rack on a golf?
« on: 24 January 2008, 17:45 »
Ive just picked up a toledo PAS rack from the scrapyard as the golf he had was non-pas (and what a b!tch it was to remove, plus this toledo didnt have a gearbox in so i cant wait to get stuck into the golf one).anyway ive got it to replace the one on my 90 spec MK2. im assuming it will go on as its an early toldedo and everything looks exactly the same(4 stud, same subframe and wishbones etc). can anyone confirm this for deffinate before i pull my car appart? id like to get it on tomorrow if it'll be ok. I got it for £30 with a set of 90 spec arches and a weighted shift rod thrown in  ill be overwhelmed with joy if it'll fit. so lets prey it does.

i also noticed the toledo had a nice twin fan radiator as well does anyone know if this would go in a golf?
and while im here, how hard is it to replace a headlining as mines gone all warped and crinkled from where i havent been using the car over the winter and theres a perfect one up there in the scrapyard. im just trying to sort everything out while i gotta bit of time off work. thanks to anyone who can help out on these topics..

it should do yes, the only thing that might differ is the rack -> column UJ, but it should fit assuming your car is PAS already ;)
the radiator will fit, but make sure you get the hoses too as I think the outlets are on the opposite side?  Also what engine has it got and which engine do you have, this affects the hose length.  Also some have the header tank overflow pipe moulded into the top rad hose, and some have it on the flange on the front of the head, which will be an issue for you depending what engine you have in your car :)

chars very much jonny. must be a warm feeling giving someone such good news  my golf is a  2e digifant. the engine is quite low milage but the cars done almost 150k, so this new rack which has only done 74k should eliminate all my problems with the steering. im not to arsed about this radiator at the moment as this engines never run hot yet, but i do have plans to drive some long distances this year so would be as precationary if i do it. thanks for the help anyway mate i cant wait to get it on there

ive got a 2e engine in mine, never had any issues with overheating on the stock rad, and ive done some serious milage in it and i dont drive it like an old woman either

not to say bigger rad is bad though, if it fits no reasdon why you shouldnt chuck it in, specially since its a low miler!

damn it im in idiot. thought it went on ok but how wrong could i be ive just come to do up the UV joint for the rack(no idea why i left it until last), any way it looks like the splines are slightly different although the diameter of the shafts are the same.. it starts to slot in then just says no lol  theres less notches on the steering gear of this toledo rack than there is on my UV joint . arrrggghh. any suggestions? whats easier to swap the rack or the UV joint. i would like to keep this rack cos it really does look a good un

have another look, is there a bit where there are splines missing, thios needs to line up with the notch in the UJ.  If it still wont work, go back and steal the UJ outa the SEAT :)
