the golf 1.8 turbo is insurance group 14, i was 19 wen i insured my 1.8 turbo cost £1350 TPFT, but i just turned 20 with 3 years no claims and now paying £1000 fully comp. defo worth paying a bit extra for the turbo

in terms of extras you probably want to make a list of needs and wants
most of the extras can be retro fitted with either OEM or after market clones eg rims, front armrest
quite a few of the options are going to depend on the age as well as quite a few things because standard through out the age of the car.
personally i'd be looking for a low mileage and good condition and then adding the "options" after i've got the car, the main one you can't add is climate control, but then air con was standard in the GTI from 2001 IIRC

The ridge talks sense!
Get one with low mileage and in good condition and as its been said most extra's can be fitted afterwards!

If you can get one as there harder to find. Go for a diesel. Usually alot cheaper on the insurance and tax ( 2002 i belive for tax reduction ).
