Noob question - problem with Parking Aid
« on: 21 January 2008, 11:21 »
Hi all,

I took delivery of my lovely new Mark V GTI on Thursday and it's great  However, I have a slight issue which I hope someone here can advise me on please?

When I went to reverse out of the drive this morning the usual beep noise came on but the passenger side wing mirror didn't lower (it has the parking aid). I had this issue when I first had the car but didn't have the mirror adjust joystick set to the passenger side - but was fine once I'd done that. Even though this switch is in the right place now it just won't lower at all  In fact, it goes more out and up when I engage reverse rather than down!?

Anyone got any ideas please

Cheers,

Mark.

You could try resetting the system if you have Highline as follows :-

1. Switch off the auto down function via Highline.
2. Position the mirror where you'd normally have it during normal driving.
3. Leave the mirror adjustor joystick pointing at the passenger mirror.
4. Switch on the auto down function via Highline and enagage reverse

Thanks to "Big Guy" on another thread for this info...not tried it myself

If that does'nt work, back to the stealer I think  :embarassed:

Only got a midline computer so look's like a stealer issue

(unless anyone knows some arcane trickery that will let me do the reset with the highline)?

The mirror down function is obviously activated as the mirror does something when you select reverse but I dont think you need highline to be able to adjust it.

With the ignition on,
1. Move joystick to the passenger mirror position.
2. Select reverse, the mirror should move, albeit up and the wrong way.
3. Adjust the mirror to the position you want using the joystick.

When you drive off and go past 15mph the mirror will automatically return to it's original driving position, or alternatively return the joystick to the centre or drivers position.

I can confirm the above works fine - its not a fault you just need to do as above

Thanks guys. I was just coming back here to report that apparently the position of the parking aid mirror is stored per key - and the issue I had was when I was using my 2nd key  :embarassed: All sorted out now anyway

Now - can anyone please tell me what the big black box with wires sticking out behind the accelerator is pleeze?

Accellerator is a drive-by-wire affair and the wires and box are the electronics that control the amount of accelleration that is transmitted to the throttle
