Acceleration probs after changing MAF
« on: 20 January 2008, 23:22 »
Car is a 1998 1.8T AGU, Forge 007 DV, revo remap, pipercross foam air filter,50k.

Had intermittant flatspots when accelerating heavily, got a new MAF (exchange from stealer) fitted and this solved the problem for about a week and was working much better than before.

But today I'm getting even worse acceleration problems than i orginally had, first gear is fine, when mildy flooring it in 2nd to 5th gear the rev counter red lines as if i was revving in neutral and the power kicks back in (although not all of it), even worse on the motorway today i could'nt even overtake properly without v. slowly building up speed! Going up inclined roads is a problem also.

Not sure what it can be, haven't checked the hoses, although not sure exactly what and where to check. If these need replacing what ones should I go for? I have noticed lately prior to MAF change a whoosh sound when lifting foot off accelerator, which makes me think its something to do with the DV, but this is spring/piston type not the Bosch OEM diaphram one?!?

Any help on this appreciated.

Thanks.

Maybe a stupid question but what the clutch like? Does it bite high?

No clutch is fine biting normally, drive was perfect last night, not sure i've damaged a hose or something?

Hmmm Sounds very much like your clutch to me, You can test it drive along at 30mph in fifth  the try to accelerate away if it revs up you need a new clutch. Might be worth a try  :undecided:
