Launch Control
« on: 19 January 2008, 12:27 »
I just heard from somone I work with that all DSG gearboxes now have "Launch Control" as part of the feature. They also heard that it was fitted on all modles from 2006 onwards. Anyone hear about this?
Also (Hurdy) what exactly is Launch Control?

no its not in the manual, as it screw up your tyres.

to make it work do the following:

1- turn off ESP
2- put into sport mode
3-rev to 3000rpm, with your foot on the brake
4-let go of brake and hit the accelerator

theres a few vids of youtube.

its not meant to be a secret as such, but yes I guess in a race situation it would be handy!

I think 2007GTI has answered how to do launch control.

Launch control simply utilises all the ESP and traction functions to give you the best possible start from a standing position. Although Traction control is "turned off" at the button, the ECU still knows what you are attempting to do via the pedal positions and speed (ie zero!) and backs off the emergency ESP cut in that would normally kill the power when wheel spin is induced. Only if you completely mess it up by keeping the pedal to the metal then you will get a better launch than any manual (unless you are a race driver ).

If you'r reving the engin to 3,000 rpm how do you take the foot off the brake and hit the accelerator? Am I right in thinking your using your left foot on the brake?

You don’t need to hold the revs at  3k , you simply press the accelerator all the way to the floor (with gear in sports, esp off and left foot on the brake) the car automatically holds the revs at 3.5k for you.

To launch just let go of the brake (left foot) and don’t lift your right foot !
