Custom Code Rock
« on: 17 January 2008, 15:53 »
Well took the car up to JBS Chesterfield today, left her in thier hands while i had a drink at the authentic pub up the road and an hour and a bit later my car was ready. Let me say its a totally differnt car! The way it pulls is superb all the way up through the revs, anyone thinking of having this done i would say go for it! I'm so happy with the car it drives how i thought a GTI would  Just hope the old turbo hangs on till i can afford an upgrade!

At 30% off until the end of january you cant really argue! The only thing i cant comment on is the dv007 as i had it fitted at the same time as the remap so assume its helped reduce the lag and maintain the boost (wish i had fitted it earlier).

custom code are very pro and got the job done with no fuss. They even offer peace of mind with a 30 day guarantee not that i think i'll be needing it

All i need now is to get her on the rollers and see the increase, they state around 200-220 so anything in that range would be sweet!

good stuff. unless yours is a really high miler i wouldn't worry about the longevity of the turbo. if you want more power without going big turbo money, the stage 2 with filter, d/pipe cat and exhaust is worth the money too!

Well it came to 312 quid with the discount...but i had to buy a new dv and some hoses as well so it cost me a bit more. I dont know of the torgue readouts yet as i have to go down to london when i get time to get her on the rollers. From what ive heard custom code deliver the most consistent gains through out the gears and revs as opposed to power in big chunks. From what ive seen so far this is certainly true.

Topher what do you regard as a really high miler?

if its never been remapped before, and well looked after (warmed up/cooled down properly, regular oil changes) then they last well over 100k. when the little k03 turbos are treated badly the housing can form cracks.

well mine is over a 100k but has been well maintained through the years and driven by an old boy before me so fingers crossed it will hold on  is there any way to check the status of the turbo...other then inspecting the exterior>?

Nice one on deciding to get it re-mapped mate. Just had mine done three days ago, I’ve got the GT TDI 130 and all I can say is wow, it feels like I’ve had an engine transplant. The GT TDI at times felt sluggish, now its like it has a new lease of life, not even had chance to test it properly as the weather is rubbish at the moment.

I’m getting 45+ mpg around town, not been on the motorway long enough yet to get a proper reading.

The driveability of the car is just so much better, anyone thinking of getting this done, DO IT! You will not look back.

If you don’t drive like you stole it everyday, then stock parts should last just as long as a standard map.
