misfire when accelerating
« on: 25 March 2004, 12:52 »
i posted a topic the other day about my 16v juddering when i accelerate, i had a diagnostic report today and it showed no fault! driving the car home it ran great. i stopped, turned the engine off, started it up again and floored it. the problem was back. it has to be something electrical, relay maybe, i dunno. anybody?

Not this helps much but I have a similar problem on my P reg 16v. It only happens intermittently. I tried some injector cleaner about 3 weeks ago and thought that had solved it until the fault reappeared twice this week. When I do get this I can usually give the engine a good rev (i.e. 7k rpm) and it kind of blows the cr*p out of the system albeit with a loud pop from the exhaust, after that all is well until next time which may be the next day or three weeks.

Don?t really know what to try next unfortunately although it must be to do with fuelling??????.

been to 4 garages now. not one of them have a clue. Took the car for a spin the other day an whilst it was juddering I flicked a couple of relays above the fuse bay and it started to drive perfect! Could a relay do this? it does judder every now and again, but it's a lot better. if it is a relay, which one do you reckon?

hey ive had similar problems and my immediate answer to any golf stuttering is to get some new spark plug lead and if u can afford performance ones would be better .....it cured my problem and this was around 50k so it mite be a fault with all standard leads wen they get older(thats if u dont get them changed at services wen recommended) anyway theres my story!

took the #30 relay apart (ECU relay) and gave the contacts a good clean. sorted! something as simple as that could have costed me a fortune. the car's actually a fun car to drive once again.
