if its cableshift then it may be down to a clip / cable problem.
if its going in smooth then i'd doubt it would be a syncro problem as if it was hard to get in gear then it would be down to worn syncro......
is your gear oil level ok?
replace the gear oil with new stuff......... that should help......
cable shift always feels funny anyway.
if it was hard to get in gear time worry then but even if it was it could still be down to a calbe fault........
if you have got normal rod shift then it could be either linkage and or gearbox oil like ive said.........
its doubtful that the syncro on the 5th gear is worn as 5th isnt used as much as 1st 2nd or 3rd the main ones to wear is 2nd on mk 2's. also they can pop out of 5th if mileage is high.....other than the diff pin syndrome theres not alot
to go worng on gearboxes..........(apart from automatics

)
check / change gearbox oil for synthetic stuff......
its probibly sticking abit so once youve sorted the oil out in there start up in neutral and press and release the clutch a few times to get the cogs spinning in the oil and then (with clutch pressed of course) engage in 5th for about 10 or 20 times, and on the 3rd engagement put it back into neutral and release the clutch pedel to get the gearbox revolving and oil on the cogs........ keep repeating this process every 3 engagements....
it should feel alot better..........
this may help to loosen it up if its sticking selector forks or syncro. try that...........
