how long to repair your car
« on: 25 March 2004, 12:14 »
Some of u will know that Ive had a bit of a nightmare with garages fixing my car - one place had it for over a month and still didnt fix it and another guy charged a fortune and in my opinion only charged the battery  >:(

after a recommendation on here about another garage and the guys at the garage seeming really keen, they told me the part needed to come from germany???? Me and a couple of others thought this was a bit weird cos I could get it off Europarts in a day or 2 but 8 days later they still saying the cars not ready cos the parts not there. :-\

So am I getting taken for a ride again or should I sit tight? ???

Sounds like are they taking you for a ride! - or they just aren't very expert on obtaining car parts?

Tell em you can get one from Euro in a couple of days and see what they say.

At the end of the day you aren't obliged to get the part off em.

My local garage is good - he always tells me what I'm getting and how much and asks if I want to try and find cheaper!

Sorry if someone has already asked this question, but what part are you waiting for exactly?

not being funny but if a woman walks into a garage then that means trouble.

I know a few garage owners that rip women off.

I reckon sit tight this time but keep hassling them until they get fed up with you, or ask them how much longer it will take, if it's more than two days then say you will get the parts yourself.  ;)
In the future, tell them you will get the parts (and order them from stuart) if they will fit them.
......now officially dubless.

its only an intake pipe (please dont laugh),  I new I could get it cheaper and even fit it myself but I just wanted the job done and a half decent garage that I could use again in the future so I let them do things the way they wanted.  :-[

he reason I didnt fix it myself is I didnt know what was wrong with it originally - the fact that two other gargaes had been unsuccessful led be to believe it must be something pretty bad, maybe it is and they are having trouble too??????? ???

thanks for advise guys im gonna ring em everyday  :-*

I'm sure most people will know this anyway ... but for those jobs where you do go to the garage, always ask for the old parts when it's finished !!!!

Ok if they really wanna rip you off then there's no stopping them unless you can prove it - but this does help to safe guard against being done.

Have you tried to source the part yourself? Presumably the garage are sourcing a patten part themselves (as opposed to a VW original part), so if you can source yourself, there should be no reason for them not to fit it?

i'd never let a garage keep my car for over 2 days unless major work is being done.. or you've got a cheap rate 'spare time' deal going on (fix it when u can mate, but charge me less...)
