mad engine swap
« on: 24 March 2004, 21:30 »
Ok, so proof that I spend too much time on ebay, but this Golf looks quite good, it's just that it's a Mk1 with a Subaru Impreza WRX's engine and running gear.

260bhp as standard and 4 wheel drive anyone?

now this is what i like to see!!! an adventurous conversion!!!, this makes happy viewing and reading in my eyes, nothing against the 1.8t boys or the vr6 boys but i do get fed up of reading nothing but page upon page of 1.8t or vr6 conversions!!!! if i had the space my ideal conversion would be a mk1, with a 200bhp pd gt tdi lump in it, all that torque,, maybe one day when i have the space!!, but i dont see nowt wrong with swapping lumps from other brands of car, take tvr golfs project, hes go tbig balls, that one ell of a car hes building, nuff respect!!

I've wanted to put an MI16 engine in an mk1. There such a solid engine and the 1.9 blocks are made of ali making it extremely light. I have a spare 1.9 engine at home but I'm turboing my mk1 at the moment so that conversion will have to weight. My house m8 has one in his 205 and I?ve been in there when he?s raced some fast cars. 10 miles down some country lanes over Tamworth stuck to the arse of a Ferrari 360 and there were three of us in there!!  :o

TVR golf's car is indeed a good car but looks like a lot of money, time and effort has gone into the project.

Surely the idea of doing something like a VR6 or 1.8 turbo engine swap is that you know they are gonna fit in without hassle?

I mean why bother stopping at that why not get a Jag V12 lump in or at least a V8.

I'm not saying it cant be done, it can, as long as you have the tools, the talent and no doubt a shed load of cash.

I'll stick with the VAG lumps myself, save the other engines for the dreamers amongst us.

I'm not sure what the point of that Subaru Mk1 is.

Even the owner calls it a Subaru, hes even fitted the dash from one. So its about as much of a Mk1 as my parents dogs are cats.
