MK 2 16v GTI Project
« on: 11 January 2008, 09:03 »
Hello all,

I've got a few grand comming my way at the end of Feb, so being as i've never really done a full project i'm gonna be cheeky and ask for some help.

The car is my 88 16v GTI in Tornado Red

I'm based in the Cheshire area and am willing to travel(a bit) to get the car done right.

I'm looking at doing the following:

Engine (either full re-build or swap???)
Interior (prob just 2x front seats, re trimmed door cards, full carpet and maybe a half cage)
Suspention
Front & Rear braces
Re-Spray (Prob stick to Red)
Wheels
and maybe Brakes

I know Awesome(from past dealings) but thats about it in the area.
So if anyone can recomend and bodyshops, suppliers, parts shops etc..... it would be greatly appriciated

And also if anyone can recommend specific parts that would be a massive help also ?

Cheers guys

Greg

Anyone heard of a GT-TDI 150PD in a mk 2 ??? I would like to give that a go maybe or newer VW/Audi petrol engine
The car will be used as a cruiser mainly, but i still do like a bit of speed

Engine (either full re-build or swap???) im a novice and im building a 2.0 8v engine. strip everything off methodically and its simple, just like a big jigsaw! get an abf bottom end, and pm 'vagabonds' on the club gti forum and get a p&p head, inlet and exhaust manifold. with wur mod, shold see a good 175bhp

Interior (prob just 2x front seats, re trimmed door cards, full carpet and maybe a half cage) strip everything you can, it'll save loads of weight

Suspension  dont bother with coilovers unless you want to spend a quarter your budget.get the weitec fixed hight kit, and theyve lowered the price of their antiroll bar kits to £200. then go to rally design and pollybush the whole thing

Front & Rear braces  no point, rear looks cool of stripped out though

Re-Spray (Prob stick to Red)  will take more than your budget for a good job. maintain the rust, and cut and polish the car a few times

Wheels personal choice really. but stay with 15's around 7" wide, and dont skimp on tyres

and maybe Brakes get g60's, no question with that new abf power!

if you can do most the work yourself, which if i can, you can! that lot will set you back around the £1400 max, and youll have something that will keep up with civic type'r's and most mk4 golf turbos. dont pay anyone when you can do work yourself, save the money and put it towards a good tool kit.this is just my opinion of course, any q's just ask
