Just a thought mate, You might want to get some silicone pipe for the top vacuum hose on the dv.
When you come to remove the old one you will find that the old rubber pipe has become brittle from years of being heated and cooled under the bonnet and it will snap. 

good shout didnt think of that, any recomendations im on a bit of a budget so nothing to pricey, but need it to do the job!

Any silicone pipe will do mate (as long as it is the correct size!) Most good motor shops will be able to help you. Got mine from forge IIRC it was about £8 inc post for 3m.

what dimensions are the silicone hoses that link up to the dv? i cant measure them as i dont have my car at the moment!

Your right mate its 4mm bore. check out the " VC04" this is what i have on my dv:
