advice needed

I no this is nothing to do with my gti but my dad has a bora 150 tdi sport and when going up through the gears from 2000rpm to 5000rpm the car makes a noise like a siren starting of quiet and getting louder the harder you push it.nobody can work out where the noise is comming from ,the turbo has been checked and its ok has anybody come across this before.

Sounds like some kind of transmission whine. Could be from drive shafts to wheels Lubrication issue maybe! Hope it's nothing serious.

Hurdy got the bora back from VW yesterday this was the technicians report.turbo(exh gasket ,manifold gasket,oil gasket,possible oil pipe if pipe seized,advise oil and filter change.the price for the work is £1110.33 how does that price sound for that work.

That sounds like a lot of money

I'd get a second opinion (and maybe even a third) from either another dealer or a respected independant specialist. The main point is to let them give you a quote for what they believe is wrong with it BEFORE you say what the dealer thought. Don't let on that you have already had a quote at a certain price either as they may simply quote you just under to get the work and arrive at the same conclusion as to the fault diagnosis.
  Also, if you decide to go with any of the dealers you approach I would ask for some kind of guarantee that if it doesn't cure the fault and it turns out to be something different, that you have some reproach for getting your money back. After all you don't want to fork out £1k+ for replacing something that was okay in the first place!

And it may be worth while to call out your recovery guys and see what they say about the problem. You will occasionally get good advice from them as they have no gain from what you decide to do about the problem
