Central locking problems
« on: 24 March 2004, 14:03 »
I'm trying to help a mate out here.

He can no longer operate the central locking system from his drivers door, in fact he can only open/lock the drivers door from the passenger side.

This seems strange as the central locking system works, so I assume it's just not sending out the signal from the drivers side.

Any ideas?

Thanks

could be one of many things, remove the door panel, check the plug/wires on the connection to the lock bit, if ok check the rubber from the door to the a pillar make sure not split damaged, then check the switching unit on the lock bit its self make sure it works, if not this could be at fault, i thought most mk4's had remote central locking anyway!!!!!!!!

Recently had similar thing happen to mine, but on passenger side.  Got it fixed under warranty by VW.  They said the locking mechanism itself was dodge.  (similar to one of Gaz's suggestions)
