VW Warranty
« on: 08 January 2008, 23:06 »
Hmm just been talking to my friend whos says that i have 3yr warranty with MY55 GTI.
But according to my local VW dealership, my warranty ran out in 12/2007, after 2yrs from 1st registration.

According to VW website it says:

"When you purchase a new passenger car from an authorised Volkswagen retailer in the UK you will receive a 2 year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty plus a further 1 year / 60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) retailer warranty. The combined warranty means that you are covered, from the registration date of your car, for a total of 3 years or up to 60,000 miles (depending on which comes first)."

1. Whats this 1yr retailer warranty?
2. And why did my local VW dealer say my my warranty has run out?

Does it mean that in its final 3rd year only the dealership that sold the car will carry out warranty work?

INFO: Im 2nd owner of my GTI (i bought it privetly) and the original owner bought it from a dealer in Sheffield which is a mission from where i live.

My car broke down tonight, VW been out to it and towed it in. My car will be 3 years old in April. There has been no question of it not being covered so I dont think you have anything to worry about

if its run out after two years its probably an import, only get 2 years with those.

I dont think its an import. I did a HPI check before i bought it and nothing was mentioned of it being an import.
I just did a RAC HPI check (for a measly £5) and it says its not recored as an import (see image below).
No mention of it being an import on the log book either.

Also says i have an estimated market value of £15,960. Not bad considering i bought it for £15,600 8 months ago  :smug:

did it come from a franchised VW dealer, are they stamped in the front of the service book?

the log book (V5C) wouldn't say if its an import.

phone the dealer and ask them is the best thing to do.

There is an easy way to tell if it is an import! Simply look inside the V5 and if there is no engine number then you have yourself an import!
