R32 Remap!
« on: 07 January 2008, 19:47 »
Ok i have decided i am looking into this as a new years presie for myself and came across BCTUNING (http://www.bctuning.co.uk/remaps/vw.php). they have a January only offer of £300 for any remap and actually come out to where you are and do it, so i gather.

Has anyone remapped their R32??
Has anyone used BCTUNING??
They quote an increase of upto 16bhp is this about right??
How many miles should you have done before you consider something like this??

thx for any help!

Again it is one of those questions you have to ask yourself

"Do I trust a guy to come to my house, hook a mobile up to my car, allow him to "remap" it and walk away with £300 of my hard earned cash?"

You also have to ask yourself

"How do I know that I have just gained XXbhp?"
"How can I tell whether the remap gives an increase that is smooth across the rev range?"

My advice would be to avoid mobile remappers and spend a little extra and go to a respected VAG specialist who can rolling road your car to show you exactly what you had before and after the remap. :nerd:

Hi ,

I'm looking to trade my GTI in for an R32 and i'm also interested in remaps for the R32. I have come across 2 links which might be of help.

Ones Superchips quoting a 267bhp increase for £399 and Revo who quotes a 262bhp increase for £339. Should give it power on par with an S3 and give GTI's that are remapped a run for there money.

Not sure if any of you are a regular on the R32 tyresmoke forum but a remap for the R32 will not give the gains as detailed on, for example superchips site. Remember the R is Naturally Aspirated so its not like you can bump up turbo boost like you do in a remap for a GTI. From what I have been reading since I got my R over the last 6 months, a remap by its own makes little to no difference in terms of actual BHP gain. What it will do is make the throttle response a bit nippier and the rev range smoother. Only if you add a Miltek or similiar system will you really see that 16 to 20 BHP gain. The remap by itself will do will to produce +3 or 4 extra BHP. Not worth my 300 quid anyway!

Hmmm thank for you input. To be honest the only reason I listed the link was because they come out and do it. i am far too lazy to actually take my car somewhere and spend my time and money waiting for it to be done. Some interesting info there none the less. However if I was to take it to a more reputable place would they also RR it to show that the gains they said are infact correct??

How do you know if these rolling roads have been calibrated right.. and not just to show a gain of around 10bhp for example??

A reputable dealer (like Awesome) trades on the fact that it is reputable and so basically what you get on the RR is a fair representation of a before and after increase. They quote 295+bhp for the remapped ED30 with an APR remap and when mine came out at only 285bhp they simply said that you get what you get and that the ECU on mine would "learn" the remap and eventually be more. The point I'm trying to make is that they could have easily fiddled the results to give me 295+bhp, but they didn't as they are open and honest about it.
