Am i just being silly?

Got the Ed30 from Motorhouse in Cannock, all is going well, thanks for the previous advice chaps. Car is brilliant, love it, however is it just me or when the car is at idle and you are outside listening to it running you can hear an almost tinny sound or the pistons clunking. When in the car the sound is brilliant, proper exhaust note. When I rev the sound goes as well

Any ideas or should I be taking it downto a dealer asap?

i think the two words you are looking for are 'dirty diesal' :grin: :grin: all gti sound like a diseal on start up. horrid i know  :sick:

Don't worry about it. It is a "characteristic of the engine".

Indeed it is a characteristic... mind you there are degrees of how noisey it is... I had the engine in my 05 GTi replaced under warranty as it was excessively noisy... thread here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=62751.30 - it is still a bit tappety now... but nowhere near as bad.

Mk 5 GTi, Tornado Red, Leather, Xenons, 18" Monza II's, Sunroof, 6CD in Armrest, Winter pack & Tinted Windows... soon to be adding ED30 front spoiler, plus R32 sideskirts... then getting fully colour coded!
New engine fitted when car was at 27k... last one went "noisey".
