manifolds!

right. simple question from experiences
iv a lightly tuned 8vpb engined mk2.excellent service history, k&n panel filter with opened up airbox, newman 268 cam, and std vw mid and rear exhaust boxes , with the first resonator box deleted with stainless straight through pipe.

will fitting a quality 4-2-1 manifold make any difference?

im not in it for looks, i just know of one going for good money

is the std vw stuff restrictive?  or will i loose anything fitting the manifold? Paul

you can certainly open up the mid-range with a decent manifold. if the price is right, i'd do it.

but if u upgrade to 2l watch for clearance problems, as ive just found out

Performance will improve if you open the whole exhaust, but you may lose torque to gain HP! I had SS 4-1 miltek manifold, I wrapped mine to protect the engine bay and steering rack. Helped to free the top end up

i have heard that a 4 branch ads a lot more noise inside the cabin but im sure c+r enterprises do a standard manifold that is ported for about £90 also some 4branch manifolds are to short as i think some are made for cat cars and need a piece made up so just check it before you buy

Having similar dilema as i need to replace my standard one. I have fitted a Milltek system and thought i should finish the job with a 4 branch stainless. The thing is the milltek is actually noisier than i'd hoped and i dont want to add more noise inside by doing this.
At the same time though the standard replacement down pipe and silencer is actually more expensive than some 4 branches i've seen.
Just don't know to be honest

without sounding retarded...  ... why would the manifold affect the steering rack... generation of excess heat? whats liable to happen?

can melt the boots which i think is a mot failure? iv thought long and hard and think im going to get the standard vw manifold ported and gas flowed. along with the inlet.

looking at the std 8v set-up, it actually looks quite efficient, and the downpipe certainlt very similar to the 2-1 section of a 4 branch

plus it means if i do decide to go 2.0, il have no fitting problems
