Vacuum Leak?

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my MK2 Digi trying to stall. I think I've traced the problem to a vacuum leak coming from the place shown in this pic:



There's a crack in the top of it which I'm pretty sure isn't meant to be there!

Basically does anyone know if this part is still available and where from? And will it be ok if I just bodge it with a bit of tape until I can get a replacement?

I would think it would be fine to do a temp repair with a bit of tape and see if you can get another from the  main stealers or it might be worth a breakers yard, you never know you might be able to repair that one permanently once you get it off the car and then you'll have a spare  :wink:

Thats the brake servo pipe, mine has been bodged previously in the past with some rubber tubing and a bolt, ive got a spare to go on mine though

Get it temp repaired, replaced asap as it will effect your brakes as well

Thanks for the replies, I've had a few issues with the brakes as well which I figured had something to do with this. It's now got a proper bodge job repair using silver tape until I can source a replacement.

Does anybody know what this part actually does? I was thinking it might be easier to just replace it with a bit of pipe, but since it leads to the brake servo I'm not sure if it's a good idea!

That is a one way valve and replacing it with a straight pipe will make things worse

The servo pipe is unavailable new from vw and even if it was it was £50 anyway!!

Best get yourself to a scrapyard and see if you can find one

For referance part number is 192 611 931 B

It can be found on golfs and jettas from 84-92 and also on passats with a pb or pf engine code from 88-91

pop the cap off and repair it with some 2 part epoxy :)

or heat up a knife and use it to smear the plastic together, sealing the leak.
