judder or misfire when accelerating
« on: 23 March 2004, 19:27 »
I've read through the forum and this doesn't seem to be a common problem, so if anyone can help....   I've just bought a Mk3 (98) 16 valver, it's just developed a bad judder when I accelerate, as if it's struggling for fuel. I took it to a garage and they've said it isn't the fuel pump or relay and said I should take it to a VW garage to be hooked up to a diagnostic computer. I'm booked in later this week but in the meen time if anyone has encountered this problem drop us a line. I'll let u know if they find a problem.

Try changing the fuel pump and ecu relays, seems to solve everyone else's car with the same problem.

'Juddering' doesn't sound like a fuel problem.. (wait.. OK..no)

Check your wires for arcing...  If they're touching each other or anything metal they'll eventually arc.  And that would give you a 'judder'. - most common.

The coil is also a player in the 'judder' arena, but I doubt it.

Also, what year, how many miles?

Juddering usually means fuel problem.
If it is electric ie. ht leads then you will get misfiring or cutting out all together.

I would think if it were a fuel problem then you'd have loss of power and stalling problems..
