MK2 big bumper
« on: 03 January 2008, 20:32 »
Any know the going price of these from the stealership for a rear or how much the going rate for a secondhand one is? If it's secondhand I'll be lucky to get it in the colour I want - brilliant black so how much would a respray cost?

Euro car parts do them for £50 (non-genuine). I bought my front bumper from them and was pleased with the quality. I think your looking at £200+ from VW. The respray is about as easy a job can get for a bodyshop so I'd guess £100 to £150.

One thing to think about secondhand is that they all tend to be somewhat rusty, and do you want the only crash protection a Mk2 has to be composed of brown iron filings?

Not sure if you can see the link below but volkwagen spares have two items...
one is £44 - ISAM GOLF MK2 RR/BUMPER (BIG) 90-92 (BIG STYLE BUMPERS)
Other is £207 - GENUINE GOLF MK2 RR/BUMPER (BIG) 90-92 (BIG TYPE BUMPERS)

GSF do a big bumper conversion kit for just over £100 but not sure if that would suit you.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Cheers for the replies guys, it's after some plank rear ended me today. Genuine is on there at the moment so genuine is going back on. I foresee a tricky telephone call tomorrow and then a call to the insurance after getting nonsense from him.
