Alarming Situation
« on: 03 January 2008, 13:03 »
I sold my 06 GTI in June 07 but have decided to return to the fold after a brief and unsatisfying fling with BMW (Runflat tyres should be banned!!).

I am looking at a parallel import which has come in through Holland.  The dealer who has the vehicle has confirmed it is UK spec other than not having an alarm.  They will fit a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm but tell me that the alarm company can't get the interior monitoring disabling button to work with their system.  Is this nonsense?  I have a two year old so this is a useful feature for me.

I am assuming that the cars that the likes of Motor Provider and MH2K bring in via Holland do not have alarms and they then arrange for them to be fitted.  Does anyone with an import have any info on this and does the interior monitoring disabling button on the drivers door pillar work with their systems?  The button is on the door pillar of the vehicle I have in mind so I can't understand how it can't be made to operate.  Are the interior monitors also already present and just need wired up on cars without alarms?

The last thing I want is some aftermarket system which is not in keeping with the vehicle and has ugly monitors.

I had heard that VW UK fit the alarms to the official UK cars as they come form the factory without but this may be nonsense.

Thanks in advance

Mine's an import from motorprovider (via Holland) and has the standard VW (factory fitted) alarm.  I'd be looking very carefully to confirm that the rest is to UK spec given that it does not have an alarm.

Mine is also from MP, it has the standard Cat 1 alarm as all UK models do.

MP provide full uk spec vehicles the same as what you would buy from a dealer here in the uk.

Farina,

there is a school of thought that the "factory fit" alarms are actually fitted in UK by VW at Milton Keynes and I wonder if anyone on here can dispel that myth or confirm that to be the case?

The spec has been checked and it is otherwise as my previous 06 UK GTI.

The dealer has just called- panic over - the car has an alarm as when he was sitting in it speaking with the alarm fitter it went off!

That would be a stealer for you - ar*e and elbow springs to mind.  Alarms are fitted in the factory.
