I'm a Scooby traitor...do you forgive me???

I write to you my comrades to ask your forgiveness...This is my first post for bloody ages, let me explain - 

About six months ago my Dad moved to Spain and offered me his Impreza for a cut price and yes I admit it...I bought it :embarassed: Since then my beautiful 91 Royal Blue 8v has just sat there looking rather sad. But once you get the bug I guess it never leaves you because although the Impreza is quick and corners like its on rails cos of that 4WD system, I'm selling it along with the Golf (and my Girlfriends car also) and we're pulling together to buy ourselves a mint 16valver!

The second I got back into my Golf I just knew the Scooby had to go.

I'll post some pics of the new Gti once I've bought it.

Surely with an Impreza AND a GTI to sell, shouldn't you be looking towards picking up a G60 Syncro from Germany?

You'll have the best of both worlds (although it'll be LHD).

As it's a joint purchase there's gonna have to be some compromise!

how about looking at 1.8t conversions? should ba able to afford one easily and then you'll still keep up with older scoobies...

What sort of money are you looking at for a complete conversion then? (Just the conversion, not a car already with a conversion) What kind of power do you get with a 1.8t? I've got to be honest, I'm a bit old school and I'm really into old Gti's just the way they are, maybe a tasteful tweak here and there with cosmetics and performance but a total conversion scares me a bit! I can't see the missus goin for that either! hahaha

A 1.8T ain't gonna give you the traction to keep up with the Subarus, unless it's in a Syncro, which IS possible in RHD, but would require a cable-change 'box and fair bit of work to make space for the exhaust.

The Syncro handles a lot differently to the 2WD Golf.  Given about £3-4k I'd be off to Europe looking for a good one - after all LHD means your missus gets out on the kerbside, not into the road if she's driving

glad to hear but can you explain how the golf feels better than a scooby or have i misinterpreted something? i mean it handles on rails and goes like stink just interested thats all. Is it the rawness of the drive?

Its ok, we all do it, my mate has gone from a life of dubs to an rx8, he is now selling it and buying an 8v mk2 again (due to the superior torque compared to the 16v  )
