Hi,

I had a query regarding this recently.  The noise was like an old steam kettle whistling for about 3 or 4 seconds just after cold starting.

I had a PM from richw today asking if I had resolved it, but I was unable to access my PMs for some reason, so hopefully richw will see this reply.

As yet I haven't done anything about it rich.  It doesn't happen every time I start from cold, but about 90% of the time.  I had a service last week and needed two new front tyres (Goodyear Eagles) on the 17" alloys so I am a little short in the cash department at the moment.

If it is just the starter motor sticking then I can live with it for now.

I start a new job this week which requires a round trip of about 60 miles a day, so I am thinking economic necessity might need a change to a diesel something or other.

I might therefore be looking to offload my silver 1.8T 180hp 5door on an 03 plate, with factory fitted 17" alloys, black leather seats, 43000 miles, FSH.

I would post a photo here, but I am afraid I am much too stupid.  I clicked on the 'insert image' icon but it didn't seem to want to play with me.
