Drum or Discs ? What's best?

What does everyone prefer? Disc or Drum? What is the performance difference?
Do people convert to Disc's for looks only?

mk 2 rear calipers are prone to failing

i always thought the majority of braking was on the front so rear disks were more for looks

First I've heard of them being prone to failing - but that's not to say you're wrong.

There's no question that discs provide better stopping power, but drums on the back are adequate if not desirable.

As mentioned most of the braking is done by the front so upgrading the rears probably wouldnt make that much of a difference

Just more modern technology. I ride two motorbikes, one with drums and one with discs, the difference is massive.

With regards to the rears they don't do a lot so not important unless you are really ragging it 

As for looks i do believe you should upgrade to discs if for some reason you are pimping a car that has drums on the rear... I just hate painted drums sooooo badly! Black is ok but red? or silver? Advertising you have shoddy rear brakes?  Ridiculous!

The rear brake proportionatly to the front, not as hard but you would notice when you want to stop faster, plus they look better. Either way discs are better than drums  and all round discs will stop you firmer.

if your car came with drums it is hard work to convert to disks because you have to f**k about with the bias valve and the rear calipers are prone to seizing however if you are fitting a bigger engine say a gti engine into a driver it would be advisable to upgrade to disks or just go out and buy a gti and the work is done for you

I know you can replace the mk2 rear calipers with mk4 variants dead easy, so hopefully eliminating the seizing problem 
But what about the fronts?
Anyone?
