Carbonio Intake on ED30

Having said that 4bhp loss is nothing when balancing it against looks.

Cmon Hurdy , yeah it looks supreme , yes I want one.
But if it does loose hp then I dont care how good it looks! 
Whether thats real hp or varied rr loss hp who knows.
Time to trawl web for dyno plots me thinks...

I am not doubting for a second about the m4bhp loss, but I have to wonder about this.

The standard air intake at the grille splits the opening so half the air in to the intake goes to the engine bay and half in to the intake. All the Carbonio does is let all the air flow straight in to the intake and away from the engine bay, and the panel filter allows more air in as well.

I have a Carbonio on my car as well, and there is no real difference in sound, but I would be very surprised if the kit actually made the car lose power as it does not change the routing of the air flow other than the fect there is no longer air getting in to the engine bay through the slot on the OEM air feed at the grille.

My feelings went more with the panel filter. It is supposed to allow a higher air flow through it and as such would give an increase (although small) even if you used it with the standard intake. With the Carbonio fitted too, are we saying that the car loses any benefit of a higher flow air filter and then loses an extra 4bhp too?

Does anybody know if there's any difference between oettinger's ram air intake and carbonio's intake, I was on oettinger's website last night and it looks like they just look exactly the same but with different stickers??

Had a chance to give the car a good run today and a think there is a deffinate improvement in throttle response it feels much crisper and more responsive with the Carbonio, maybe the intake on its own doesn't make much difference, but when the car is remapped and the demand for more air is present gains are to be found. This could also be down to the fact I was using a standard panel filter before.
Also I haven't driven the car for a week so it felt awesome.

If anybody wants a K&N panel filter that I took out of the old Gti at a good price let me know, just never got round to fitting it and as you get a filter with the intake its going spare. It has only done about 3000 miles and comes complete with box

a quick trawl of the US golfmkv threw up some interesting info which I will try to summarise.

1. all currently available air filter kits give little or no power increases.
    This is hotly disputed by various sides , where some claim big gains.

2. EVOMS filter has quality issues but appears to be most popular + biggest gain

3. Many love the Carbonio , basically an enhanced OE design. But I only found one dyno plot showing +4 bhp

4. The consensus (whether its backed by hearsa or fact !) is that
    EVOMS is best for high rpm gains , Carbonio 'may' improve the lower rpm better.

5. APR stopped selling Carb intake as part of an upgrade kit , which could either be cost cutting or that its not reqd. you decide!

so I guess if you like it , buy it but dont expect lots of horses.
Maybe a modified OE box would be better.
As Gaz states at higher levels of tune this may change demands.

However that would mean back to back runs @ Awesome , which commonly doesnt happen .
As I know that if Im going to go there, I plan to get a few things done together so its hard to isolate the hp per component differences.
