Noisy Heater fan..
« on: 29 December 2007, 00:50 »
Hi folks,
Anyone had this very annoying problem of a noisy heater fan on my MK2, it sounds like it might be rubbing or something!!
The noise level varies, sometimes very loud squeeking and rubbing sometimes not so.
Is there an easy cure!!!

Oh and Merry Christmas by the way

the blower bushes have probably dried up, get the blower out and lube the bugger!

to get the blower out:

passenger footwell, remove the foam/carpet covering, unplug the blower wires (blower is located near to the door), the blower assembly just twists to undo, be careful not to snap the plastic lugs...

then get the WD40 on it...

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I have had the same problem for a year on my heater fan but that noise is only there on speeds 1&2 so I just turn it up to 3! I think it's time to sort it out, ive just beeen lazy.

You can also get to the fan through the engine bay. Take off the plastic trim below the windscreen (scuttle tray??) and you will see the air hole into the cabin. You can reach a WD40 can down into the hole and spray the fan through holes in the fan blades. This cured my fan noises, but only lasts a few months.

Makes the cabin stink too!
