Hello - possible new GTI MK 3 Owner!
« on: 28 December 2007, 11:29 »
Hello to all,

I have been lurking for a couple of days reading tips and bits and pieces in preparation for looking at a few Mk III GTi's (8v).

I have had many cars over the years, including 4 Passats - i have always loved VW and am looking into coming back with my first Golf ownership!

I currently have a Volvo S40 T4 (200hp Jobbie) which is probably the most comfortable car i have ever owned and very quick!  However it's costing me a fortune in fuel as it drinks it badly when on boost!!  It also prefers the Shell Super Unleaded stuff at £1.08 a litre  :undecided:  What with a baby on the way in March i need something a bit cheaper to run as our second car.  The Motorbike is also going

I have four cars locally to take a look at  - all 96/97 P or R plates, only one has A/C which i would miss if i got one without, all of them have between 100-120k with history and range from £1495 to £2000.  I'm looking at the lower end of that scale.....

Thanks to everyone for the tips so far, i will be putting them to good use when viewing the cars and hopefully report back soon with a new purchase!

Good luck hunting.

Just thought I should point out the 2.0l engine isnt exactly economical. Expect a return of 24 - 26 - 28 on city driving and low to mid 30's for motorway runs.

Yeah i realise it's not going to be fantastic on fuel but believe me it will be better than a 200hp turbo!!

There is also a chance i'll look at a P Plate TDi too....

Hi mate i'd go TDI route too !

Havent had much to do with MK3 TDI's, but i sell car's for a living and did work at the local VW dealer's here in Swansea for 2 year's !

If you can stretch to £3500 then look for a high miler MK4 TDI, they're awesome !

I used to be dead against diesel, until i drove a 2 year old GT TDI 130 PD.

WOW what a car (converted)

J.
