if you can you deffo want a seperate amp for the subs. Monoblock for the subs and a seperate 2 or 4 channel depending on wether you have one or two sets of comps. dont forget if you go budget on cables you will reduce the amps output.

nice one cheers, i suppose id be better off gettin a four channel, then if i decide to get another set of comps iv got the option without having to buy another amp.

One more thing to consider when choosing an amp. If, for example, you have 2 speakers @ 100 watt each get a 300 watt amp so the amp doesn’t need to be flat out to power them to their potential. Some people believe this is good and some say unnecessary. I personally think it’s a good thing.

Cheers, thats something i agree with, amps tend to reach distortion at the top of they're power range so this can help avoid it, however i guess u need to be careful not to blow your speakers if u crank the amp. - Just my knowledge from audio other than in car - i just assumed the same rule applied

If you do insist upon rear speakers, then a pair of co-axials in the standard locations, running from the headunit would be more than adequate - this gives you the option to fade them out if necessary.  From an SQ perspective, any other source other than the front will alter the sound stage.  The only reason the sub goes in the back is convenience - it is far more difficult to pinpoint the source of low frequencies, especially in a moving car.

You wouldn't have rear speakers on your home hi-fi for listening to CDs (surround is something totally different), so if aiming for good reproduction in-car, good fronts(well fitted) are all you need.  Spending the rear speaker money on sound deadening would give better results.

Im seriously thinking about modzing my rear door cards to have some 17cm components in now

i guess fibre glass just daunts me a little? :undecided:

Yer tbh i would just cut'n'fit :embarassed: lol

Through past experience 12's are the way forward for an all round system. My 2 alpines can keep up with anything and drop low when needed. Iv also had a 2 15s and a 10. The 10 struggled to get low enough for my liking and my 15s were a mistake. (Lack of research on my part ) but it depends on your budget. I had a cheep 10 so couldn’t expect the world from it. My last system I had 2 lightning audio 12" @ 150Watt RMS each and they rocked. which are for sale by the way. On the Comps, if you go for tried and tested stuff with highest RMS you can afford you should be ok. are you planning on amping the comps?

My 8" isnt low enough but my mate has 2x12" sony's and they make my hair shake theyre that good

Don't know if this is a silly question but where would you put the tweeters? Obviously the 13s would go in the doors but the dash speakers are 4.5" I think.. Whereas tweeters are alot smaller than this.
