Amp power cable to the battery

Well i did mine, my mate came out for a spin with me, and next thing i know hes expecting me to wire one he just brought for him!

When i plug the power cable onto the possitive terminal on the battery do i disconnect the possitive cable and fix the amp power cable on and then re-attach the possitive cable onto the battery?

I know a guy that did that welded his watch between the positive and battery tray on a Mini when he dropped a spanner down the side of it 2nd degree burns ouch
