VW Sat Nav HELP Needed!!!
« on: 18 December 2007, 23:49 »
Hi There

I have VW SATNAV RNS MFD2 CD Version which i bought on ebay during May of this year. I've never had any problems with it whatsoever unit recently.

Problem 1

One of the problems is that my Bluetooth Parrot kit which is hardwired to the stereo sometimes does not come on when i start the car up. This happens once every 2 or so days. I get the parrott lady saying "connection problem" when it doesnt come on. I have to turn ignition off and then on to get it to come on.

Problem 2
The other problem is that the SATNAV does not work straight away.
When i turn the car on and insert the SATNAV CD (2006 and 2008 versions) it says "CD ERROR" and refuses to read it and says "NO SAT NAV CD".
The strange thing is it reads the cd after 30-60minutes of me driving around. Sometimes when it refuses to read the CD i still get "Destination Entry Active" on the display and when i hit "MAP" on the stereo menu button it says "Loading SATNAV CD...Please Observe RTR" but nothing happens.

- When it refuses to read the CD i still get a 3D fix on the Compass display and generally get 7 out of the 9 satellites.

- It reads all other CD's i throw at it.

Like i said, the SAT NAV works and displays the map after 30 to 60minutes of me driving around and then works 100% like it should.

Before anyone asks the Sat Nav cd's are not scratched. Infact, the 2008 cd is only 3 days old and is in brand new condition. Both cd's are TMC enabled using Classic FM.

I have the vw ipod kit installed.

Anyone know why it is doing this, both with the bluetooth and sat nav?
Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I have no real answers to this but you may get an informed response from here:

1. Sounds like it may be a bluetooth Parrot unit fault

2. Sounds like an MFD2 unit fault - did you get any warranty with the unit when you bought it ?

I have a factory fitted MFD2 and have had no faults to date.

Maxamus, where did you get the Navi CD from? I have an MFD2 which I got from ebay and had a similar problem with CD's sourced from ebay, "CD-ERROR" & "NO-NAVI-CD". These issues are usually down to "Copied" CD's, they work for a while and then turn to Sh1te. I bought a genuine CD from www.navshop.com, which is Teleatlas's shop, and I have never had any navi issues since. If your CD is a copy then I think thats the problem, Bob on vwnavi.com will probably say the same. So either try to get an original cd to verify, a kindl dealer may help, or buy an original. If your CD is original then return it.

There are what look like originals on ebay but some are poor copies, the cd is orange but should be blue and yellow.

I had a problem with an Ebay unit which turned out to be condensation if i left the unit with no disc in it. I solved this with a Harmon Kardon ipod connector thingy and just leave my disc in the unit. No problems since then. I use a Sony Erisccon bluetooth kit which doesn't cause any problems. My company installs car kits every day and the Parrots are usually quite good. I'd agree that it sounds like a fault with the wiring or the Parrot itself unless you have the wrong audio mute cable. When you say its wired to the sat nav, do you mean that there's a custom audio mute with the Parrot interface lead?

Yeah the copies either dont work or dont work for long. The copy I originally got lasted 3 months and by then was scratched to feck even thought it lived in the MFD2. The original I have now is 9 months old and not a scratch and running perfectly.
